IDEAS '06

well....back from Delhi...after a pretty hectic and 'it-went-over-my-head' databases conferences at IIT-D....well...will leave you with a few snapshots....lesson of the day...Databases are not for me!!!!!

OH MAN U! MY MAN U!

Last night I watched petrified...horrified...dumb-founded...center-shocked...as nigel leo-'cocker' shot passed a helpless edwin van de saar....yes....the relegation threatened had in fact managed to cut down the once point lead to a mere 2...

Yes Sir alex had built up a team worthy of championship contention over the last couple of year...lean patches in Man U terms...and now fans have come to believe that messers rooney n saha have what it takes to open the floodgates to make the Theatre of Dreams glow in the the golden glory of being crowned champions...

Yet somehow....i feel that Man U are yet to regain the killer touch that made them champions of europe against a Bayern team which were counting their chickens before blah blah blah......chelsea showed that yesterday against everton as lampard and drogba stunned goodison park with two fantastic strikes...I strongly believe that we need some magic in an aging midfield....while jose mourinho excites Stamford Bridge with his characteristic flairy signings....Sir alex goes for more effectiveness than flair!
I remember the excitement at the prospect of seeing ronaldinho in a man u shirt lighting up old trafford but that honour was reserved for the Nou Camp....perhaps we need some excitement and flair players who can turn the game with a single touch of magic...Scholes seems to have left his shooting boots behind in some dingy dressing room...giggs is aging...Carrick does his job well...ronaldo..well well well...we all know how unpredictable he can be...when he is on song...he is just the player we need...otherwise...he flatters to deceive....I somehow feel that we need a spark in the midfiled....maybe a fabregas or a kaka or even messi perhaps...!!

Come on Sir alex ...give the fans a bit of magic next summer!!!

Nevertheless......its man u's year and this summer.....the trophy will come home to old trafford...where it really belong!hail man u!

Durga Puja 2006

One of my first memories of durga puja is that of a little toy pistol that my grandfather had bought me.Ask any boy aged 4-8 and he will know that you are talking of the cap pistols. And of course there were the new clothes, the festivities, eating out, spending night after night cramped up in dad's grand old amby visiting one pujo after another.Even more than the stipulated 4 days of festivities, the build-up to the pujos was what i enjoyed the most.Unfortunately,now-a-days being in calcutta during the build-up is quite the impossible.

Durga pujo has always fascinated me like no enigma has. From the early days of the Dalan Barir pujo to the gaudy baroari pujo to the neo-award-winning-theme -pujo....the goddess has seem quite an upheaval...(i wonder what she had to say about this sae of change??!)But thats not the reason why we are here....

Every year....the city of joy comes alive with excitement at the advent of the pujos. From the quintessential bangali babu to haran the rickshaw puller....its all the same. All you have to do is simply stand at any street corner...and you will be overwhelmed with the sea of humanity running through the streets of the great city. Its a time where everyone is equal...everybody rich or poor, young and old...want to be a part of this ageless spirit of freedom and joy....thats what is special about durga puja. Its a time for indulgence a time for frivolous whims....and no one says no.....

Durga pujo is a celebration of who we are and what we do......
Its a celebration of life...of victory of good over evil......
Its a coming together of humanity....of love...and compassion...
Its an identity of every bengali....
