Days 1,2,3 at IIM B

Its been three long days at IIM B , with hardly any time to stop and stare. Thankfully ,I finally managed to get my hands on my laptop and hook it up to the network. Seems like I have been cut off from the rest of the world , and these three days have definitely been the longest three days of my life !
Orientation week , is a test of resilience , astuteness as well as attuning your brain to sleep deprivation. Apparently , thats what life at IIM B demands from you.
Contrary to some of my batch mates who were oh so perturbed by "childish" whims of the PGP2s , I felt that it was quite a good job done on their part. Perhaps the fact that in most cases , I prefer a more of less nocturnal existence allows me to still enjoy the "activities" and "tasks" despite my eyelids drooping down heavily.
Quotable quotes time :-

1. PGP2 to innocent PGP1 : At IIM B , there is time for only 2 of these 3 things - sleep, acads , fun/girls/freaking out. The choice is yours. May the force be with you!

2. PGP2 to hapless PGP1 ( who wanted his "intro" ) : Just give me the paper , I'll sign ( Get the hell out of here , I have better things to do ! )

3. PGP2 President to the PGP1 batch : Please try and understand , we are not your servants.

4. PGP2s after the PDP session : This was the worst PDP session in IIM B since 1971 !

5. PGP1 to fellow PGP1 : At IIM B , you can B what you want to B , as long as you are not B-eing someone you really don't want to B. To hell with B !

6. Hostel warden to PGP1s: Smoking is officially not allowed in the campus.

There is more to come folks ,its going to be one crazy ride.

Back after two years

Its time once again to bear with my unending ramblings. For this sudden spark in the dark , flash in the pan post , let me keep it short and simple. After two very interesting years at Microsoft Hyderabad ,its time to move on for the much coveted ( eh ? ) MBA at IIM Bangalore. Excited as I am , I thought that perhaps there would be a number of incidents worth remembering and sharing about the journey I am about to undertake. Watch out for more posts...meanwhile...enjoy the football frenzy ! Go Espana !

Its pretty late into another saturday night and already I am halfway through a weekend which just began a few hours back! The day began disappointingly since our do or die cricket match against Hindu Business Line stood cancelled due to reasons beyond my understanding. We finally decided to get a dts connection for our new television and lured by the simply unbelievable schemes launched by reliance ( remember DAPO!!) we decided to try our luck with Big TV.Unfortunately we haven't been able to savour the latest offerings from the prodigal Ambani..we must wait for a few more days for it to be set up.

Enough digression. Lets get to the point of this post.

The day ended with a run-of-the-mill visit to the theatres to get a first hand view of Farhan Akhtar's screen debut in Rock on! I got what I expected.

It wouldn't be fair if I discussed the plot of the movie here at least. What was perhaps the greatest achievement of the movie was the fact that it transported me a few months into the past as we stood on the audi stage with our last performance. Yes..I am talking of the little band we got together in college.

Rob, the backbone of Magik was Abel Joseph.
Jo, the guitar maestro were Vinu, Aaron and Jobin.
KD, was Imti...they were all alive right before my very eyes on the celluloid screen.

What is it with music?
Even after years of formal training and also the usual fooling around part...I fail to fathom.
Yea I miss those days.

I don't want to sound cliched but our band was unlike others. We fought it out too...just as Magik did in Rock on. We had immense talent. We played like there was no tomorrow..and we loved doing it!

Things are different now...but I just couldn't stop the deluge of memories that came rushing back with every riff and every chord.
Cheers to the phoenix connexion! Rock on!

Im back babies!

After a really long hiatus from posting here...I pondered on whether I should start a new blog or actually continue with this one.
Firstly my apologies for not having posted in ages...a lot of reason..care not to explain.
Finally I am into work-life..albeit temporary perhaps...its pretty cool though..specially when you are working with the blue monster as they call it. Hyderabad as a city continues to bore me..although I do find enough things to do that keep me busy..made a lot of new friends...well..that will be all for this really sleepy friday afternoon...more to come guys!

fifa anyone???

The advent of state of the art technology has finally blessed the bored and wretched souls of NIT Warangal,BH.The reason...we are now officially connected!Im not taking about a meteoric riose in the number of hand held communication devices manufactured by a Finnish company..but rather im talking of the much awaited college lan and internet. While the lan has its great advocates..(to be read counter-strike,AOE and fifa-maniacs) the internet facility has taken quite a beating...and that too with reason.

Have you ever had a bad dream where you enter this huge maze and then can't find a way out cause all the paths lead to a dead end...welcome to the Total Internet Experience (TIE) rought to you by the famed Ece department of NITW.this TIE is regulated by a Solitary Limping Soul (SLS) from the erstwhile mentioned famed department...who is often seen doing the rounds on 14th block ...pouncing upon poor unsuspecting souls who decided that it would be more worthwhile to stay back in their rooms rather than face the flak from their teachers.

This SLS has taken the onus of being our guardian angel upon his drooping shoulders.Of course who could doubt the authority and prowess of this SLS...and as a case in point..SLS was out to block all that his wise intellect told him to."You people watch porn, download and surf on Orkut...thez arrreee de 3 deeedly seeenz" he retorts in class. To point his rather long middle finger straight at you...he comes out with a list of defaulters too...and the unmentionable sites they visit in full purview of the final year students of that famed department. This of course isn't the least obscene.Bottom line as our beloved student council chairman put it...."almost every link is blocked by the firewall....checking your mail is a luxury and downloading attachments a mere dream....!"

Nevertheless....pussilaminious people behave like ...well pussises.....when they are given a free hand with regards to something. Can you beat the fact that Blogger.com is blocked...??!For no reason.(although I can still access it using rund-a-bout techniques he can't trace) The more you prohibit..the more students will work around the system. The maniacal SLS doesn't realize that that we are plain smarter than he is.Hopefully we will be able to do something about the net facility through higher channels....after alll....not all of us are porn freaks and orkut-bugs!

Till then......bing bing!!fifa anyone?

Placements...well

Placement fever has caught on in NIT Warangal..the time of reckoning when an entire lifetime (or so it seems ) of agony in gult-land seems to evaporate and the array of rooms and conference halls below the CAD/CAM labs seem to hold everyone's attention!(Never to disregard the staggering array of fancy cars and sultry HR lasses!)
Very well...placements for me were over in a jiffy..thankfully I didn't have to go through the ordeals of waiting and speculating..and I do consider myself to be fortunate!
Microsoft was here as the very first company for CSE students.Needless to say, they were very very impressive in thier PPT.The panel was awe-inspiring to say the least..indeed there is something special about people who ply their trade in the largest and wealthiest software company in the world.
After over 4 hours of testing and three-four rounds of interviews (each of which had its own zing and flavor!) a long day came to an end.The results were decided but we had to agonizingly wait of another day for the results. That was one night I won't forget. What amazed me was that inspite of haveing had a gruelling 15 hour journey throught to the final round and never having been more drained in quite some time,I couldn't get a wink of sleep.
Nevertheless, the ensuing nigt the results were out. What was even more gratifying was that Shailesh and Deepak had made it too although Vibhu and Dina were terribly unlucky not to make it.Well...placements for me are over...and now now its time top sit back and watch the drama unfold! I wish all my batchmates the very best of luck an hope that all are well placed and that too as soon as possible!
Cheers!
